Introduction: Christmas dinner just isn’t the same
without Brussels sprouts. Love them or hate them,
you can also knit them! These make fun place
setting decorations for your dinner table, or hang
them from your tree.

Work flat: Each sprout is knitted flat (back and
forth) on a pair of single pointed knitting needles,
not in the round.

Casting on: Use the long tail cast on.

Pull through to cast off: Cut the yarn leaving at
least a 30cm tail. Thread the tail onto a darning
needle, sew through the sts on the knitting needle,
pull the sts off the knitting needle onto the yarn,
gather together tightly and secure.

Seaming: Use mattress stitch for seaming toys.

One size: 5cm wide.

Tension: 24 sts x 30 rows for a 10cm x 10cm square
in stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles. Don’t worry
about tension for this pattern, it is not critical.

YARN

– Each sprout is made from DK weight yarn (double
knitting/light worsted weight/8 ply); a few
grammes in a Green shade.

Dog Legs

Row 10 (RS): K1, [k2tog, k1] 7 times (15 sts).

Row 11: Purl.

Row 12: K1, [k2tog] 7 times (8 sts).

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

Dog Collar

Make 1.

Cast on 32 sts in Yarn G on straight 3.75mm needles.

Rows 1 to 5: Knit.

Cast off.

Making Up

Body: Note that the cast off end is the front. Sew the side

edges together, stuffing as you sew, and gather the cast

on sts together at the back. The seam runs down centre

underside.

Legs: Sew the side edges together, add stuffing, and sew the

cast on edge onto the bottom side of the body.

Tail: Sew the side edges together, stuffing as you sew. Sew

the cast on edge on the back end of the body.

Head: Note that the cast off end is the nose. Sew the side

edges together, stuffing as you sew, and gather the cast

on sts together at the back. The seam runs down centre

underside.

Eyes: For each piece, sew the side edges together to make a

circle shape. Sew on a black button for the pupil, and sew the

eye onto the head.

Nose: Sew the side edges together to make a circle shape,

and sew onto the front of the head.

Ears: Sew one Yarn A piece and one Yarn C piece together

around the side and cast on edges, and sew the cast off edge onto the top of the head.

Join head and body: Sew the back of the head onto the front of the body.

Collar: Wrap around the neck and sew the side edges together.

Using Kitchener’s stitch to join two pieces of Garter stitch is pretty simple, as you only have to memorize half the steps you need for stockinette

And here’s how It goes:

In preparing the first piece has to end with a purl row, while the second has to end with a knit row.
Then you’ll need two preparational stitches, where you insert the needle into the first stitch of the fabric in front of you as if to purl and leave it on the needle. You repeat this for the other needle.

Then your repeat begins:
Slip the first stitch as if to knit and insert the needle into the next one as if to purl (just like the preparational stitches).
Do this on the second needle as well.

And that’s it!

When only one stitch remains on each needle, simply let it slip of the needle and your done.
If you’ve tucked the thread a little too tight in between stitches, gently pull the seam apart.

It’s completely invisible
