-Beware of cream, shampoo and soap!
-The skin surface of newborn babies at birth has a neutral or alkaline pH (pH: 6.5-7.5). Skin pH value reaches an acidic surface pH value (pH: 5.0-5.5) that is very close to the level in adults and older children at the end of the first month in both term and preterm babies. The continuity of this acidic value is important in order to protect the skin from harmful bacteria and to cover it with beneficial flora bacteria and thus protect it from infection.
-Baby baths should be short-lasting
-Bath frequency also varies according to the culture. Especially, when bathing every day in hot areas; In the first year, 2-3 baths per week are recommended until the baby crawls. Premature babies should be washed every 4 days. It is the best timing for us to wash every day in the hot summer and every 2-3 days in the winter. Bath water temperature should be 37-37.5 degrees.
– Scrubbing and brushing are harmful to baby skin.
– Washing only with water will be insufficient as it will not be able to remove feces and oil, if any. In studies conducted with healthy babies, no difference was found in fluid loss from the skin with shampoo or washing with water. If the hair is short, thin and brittle, shampoo is unnecessary. There is no standard pediatric formula in shampoos, the same shampoo can be used for body and hair. The pH of the shampoo should be close to tears and should not burn eyes and skin.
