With four modes, including red (which combines near infrared and red light to brighten skin, as well as reduce the appearance of pores and improve skin density, hydration and elasticity); blue (which treats acne by neutralising the acne bacterium); pink (which uses red and blue light to reduce inflammation and to calm skin); and fast (for a bit of everything), the Cellreturn is the most powerful LED skincare device on the market, with 1026 LED lights. “[The Korean inventors] have also patented the waves of light they use in the mask, so they’re different from others on the market. Thanks to the combination of near-infrared with red [on the red mode], it penetrates 12 times deeper into the skin than just red light alone.
Of course, it doesn’t come cheap, at £1,899, but Earle herself has found the mask a handy way to make up for a lack of facials this year, and notes a whole host of other wellbeing benefits. For example, the red mode is excellent for helping with sleep – both the drifting off and the staying asleep parts – and with calming a stressed mind. There is also already lots of general research into the effectiveness of LED for treating mood disorders, such as seasonal affective disorder, which she is soon to put to clinical trial for the Cellreturn specifically.
Aside from these rather helpful side effects, it’s brilliant for the skin – and that’s one thing I can personally vouch for. Having started my time with the mask after a rather deep microneedling session – which left my skin red, raw and very itchy – I was on a mission to heal it as quickly as possible. The Cellreturn had my back; deploying the red mode, I masked religiously morning and night for 20 minutes a time and found my skin healed infinitely faster than I was expecting. Since then, the blue light has been my best friend, helping to take down maskne breakouts and general stress spots and aiding relaxation. It’s expensive – but for those wanting the best on the market? This might just be your guy.
