Miniature Nature Landscapes

Erin Sullivan takes us on a wonderful journey from broccoli forests to granulated sugar hills, from jelly lakes to pancake canyons.

What would you do if you were a photographer who could not travel due to the epidemic? Erin Sullivan gets creative and takes miniature “nature scenery” photographs using home materials!

Just like many of us are at home, Sullivan has been isolating himself at his Los Angeles home for some time. Of course, his situation is a little different, because his profession is travel photography. However, the artist did not want this negative situation to stop him from doing his art and started a photo project called #OurGreatIndoors.

In this project, the artist aims to bring home the landscapes he has seen before. In doing so, he uses the materials he finds at home and of course his creativity. Broccoli, onion, cotton, aluminum foil, mushrooms, and even pancakes turn into miniature nature photographs with tiny human figures inside and look almost like real landscapes at first sight!

Sullivan says that when he shares photos of his favorite part of his project with his followers on Instagram, it’s getting reactions that hear him happy. The photographer even invites his followers to a ‘challenge’ to create their own miniature world while staying at their homes.

Erin Sullivan underlines that she works consciously in the process of taking the photographs, does not make any special purchases for her photographs, uses only the materials in her home and does not waste any materials. For example, he says that after the shooting of the canyon landscape he made of pancakes, they ate those pancakes.

The artist, who is also a TED speaker, explains that the #OurGreatIndoors project adds purpose to quarantine days and it’s great to interact with other people who put themselves in isolation. “These photos remind us of places we love,” he says, so that his followers do not feel too distant from the outside world.
