The 8 Best Makeup Trends for Fall/Winter 2020

Enhanced with metallic shadows, eyes shine bright. Sabrina Bedrani, international makeup artist and Dior ambassador, reveals her three favourite ways to embrace the trend:

METALLIC TONES

  1. Minimalist:“Using a very fine brush, illuminate the inner corner of the eye with a hint of silver or champagne shadow.”
    2. Subtle glam:“Place a dab of bronze or rose gold blush on the lid, just above the iris.”
    3. Two-toned: “Spread a shade of medium intensity, like pink or blue, on the inner lid, then apply a darker shadow, like burgundy or charcoal, and blur from the outer corner of the eyelid up to the middle, to enlarge the eye. “

MAKEUP AS JEWELRY

Embellish eyes and lips with rhinestones, sequins, pearls or metallic leaves to create a dazzling avant-garde effect.

VIBRANT LIPS

  1. For an instant healthy glow, coral and pink hues are your best friend.
    2. Use your fingers to fade satin lipstick into a soft, barely-there stain.
    3. Overline lips and opt for an ultra-matte finish for a modern plumped look.
    4. Deep reds and berry tones remain timeless classics.

RAINBOW BRITE

Electrified hues, vibrant graphic tones, and soft fluorescent shades don’t have to be intimidating. The trick is to opt for shadows that have a creamy, velvety – never powdery – texture. Julie Cusson, makeup artist for Chanel says: “For an ombre look, take shades of plum, burgundy and puce, and blend right into the crease of the eyelid. A dash of eyeliner and a little mascara adds the finishing touch. ” Fancy a look that’s a little more eccentric? Use a vibrant shade over the entire eyelid and intensify the look with coloured mascara.

POLAR EYES

“Pure, icy white eyeshadow is very flattering and easier to wear than you think,” says Maybelline New York national makeup artist Grace Lee. “Just use a soft eye pencil or sheer creamy shadow to start off. Still intimidated? Lee suggests swapping white for a soft silver-grey.

GLOSSY SKIN

The key to a fresh and subtly luminous complexion, even on grey days? Choose “a lightweight second-skin foundation, a rosy satin blush and a barely-there glossy illuminating balm to let your natural beauty shine,” recommends Julie Cusson, makeup artist for Chanel.

JET BLACK EYES

“I love this very bold half-rock, half-grunge look,” says Sabrina Bedrani, international makeup artist and Dior ambassador. “Recreate it by drawing a thick streak on the outer corner of the eye or lining the waterline with a richly pigmented pencil. The line can be worn sharp, faded or slightly smudged.Does it always have to be black? No! When it comes to colours, there are no rules! ”

SIXTIES SPIDER LASHES

Spotted at Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Fashion East and Molly Goddard, Twiggy lashes are making a comeback . “Coat the lashes with three coats of black ultra-volumizing mascara, holding the brush vertically – that’s the secret! Then, stick the lashes together two by two with fingertips, ” says Grace Lee, national makeup artist for Maybelline New York. “Repeat on lower lashes using the tip of a brush.” To pull off this edgy look, she warns, be sure to keep brows impeccably groomed.
